Selenium IDE:
It is an open source web based functional automation tool developed by OpenQA.org
- It is an Integrated development environment (IDE) for performing selenium Tests
- Selenium IDE provide users to record and playback actions, allows users to modify the recorded tests, debug the tests on the web based application.
- At present Selenium IDE is the plug in for firefox
- The scripts recorded in selenium IDE can be run on different browsers using selenium web driver
Advantages:
- we can create test scripts very quickly with the help of "Record" option
- It is very useful for preparing test data to validate performance testcases with the help of while loop
- we can export the recorded scripts to various languages java,ruby,python,c# etc.
Disadvantages:
- It runs only on Firefox.
- Cannot write automation scripts for Data driven tests
- Cannot write scripts for DB Testing
- Limitations on programing(conditional statement, loop statement etc.) supports few conditional statements only
